Unscripted Story Consultation & Writing
Every series or documentary has a different sets of demands that's my I can come in at any phase of production or post. I provide a range of services from helping to work out the themes of a story prior, to develop interview questions for key subjects to rewriting a script or narration that's about to go into post.
What I am hearing from unscripted editors on series and documentaries is that problems in post-production have reached epidemic proportions causing budgets and deadlines to spin out of control as production teams scrambled to construct a narrative that lacks key foundational elements to tell a story. . My suggestion is that if you or your collaborators are unclear about the direction of your project, then check in with me. We can work out a suitable fee structure to solve your problems and establish a time frame for executing changes so that you can meet your deadline and budget. Trailers, Decks, Pitches.
There are three core elements required for a successful pitch: the trailer, the deck and the verbal pitch. Each plays a specific role in the unfolding narrative of selling a project, yet they must be distinct and not overlap. The mistake to avoid is simple: don't bore the hell out of an executive or financier who has already heard a half dozen pitches before yours. You get one chance: make it unique, compelling and economical.
So how do you stand out? The trailer is the hook. It's what compels a development executives or financiers to the read the deck. The deck must mirror what is found in the trailer but expand on the themes of the trailer in a way that reflects the "layers" (to use the current buzzword) of your story. And the oral pitch is the biggest challenge: you might have the "most amazing project" but if you can't explain it in a short period of time, hit the key topic points and respond to a range of questions coming at you from left field, then you're going to be in trouble.
I have been hired to develop pitches and pilots that were sold to CNN Films and the BBC as well as a number of independent productions. And I'm doing the same on my own projects while being represented by WME. I'd be happy to discuss where you are in at in your process or your cut and work out a budget for consulting that suits your needs.
